John Mead

Male, b. after 1688
John Mead, son of George Mead and Hannah Hearne, was born after 1688 probably in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire.1

He was named as a beneficiary in the will of his father George Mead written on 17 October 1700. He was to receive the sum of seventy pounds, to be given to him when he reached the age of twenty one; but any monies used to place him out in the world were to be deducted from this sum.2 His father subsequently died on 22 March 1708 and was buried four days later.3,4

John was named as a beneficiary in the will of his mother Hannah written on 3 August 1728. She left him her house in Sawbridgeworth and £50 (which he had already received). A further £10 was also to be his plus an equal share with his brother Thomas of her household goods after all other bequests had been made.5 His mother died circa 1729.6

John was named as an Executor of the will of his brother Thomas Mead written on 22 January 1742 along with Thomas' wife Mary as Executrix.7

John is named last in the George's will and also described as one of his youngest sons. As his brother Thomas, also one of the youngest, was born circa 1688 it is assumed that John was born after this date.
