Philadelphia Mead

Female, b. circa 1737, d. circa 1802
     Philadelphia Mead, daughter of George Mead and Margaret Heron, was born circa 1737 and was baptized on 29 December 1737 at St Mary Magdalene, Great Burstead, Essex.1

Philadelphia was named as a beneficiary in the will of her father George Mead written circa 1763. She was bequeathed, "seven ffreehold ffields closes or parcels of Land containing together by estimation Thirty Acres of the same more or less with the Barn and Messuages thereto belonging lying and being in the parish of Buttsbury ... and now in the Occupation of Edward Petchey." She was further bequeathed two other freehold fields and some copyhold land in the manor of Blunts. Philadelphia was also named as an Exectrix of the will.2

Philadelphia married James Vanderzee on 22 July 1765.3

Philadelphia, widow of James Vanderzee, Attorney at law, died circa 1802 and was buried on 3 September 1802 in a vault, probably the one in which her parents had been interred, in the churchyard of St Mary Magdalene, Great Burstead, Essex.4

    This would almost certainly be the vault in which her mother and father George and Margaret Mead had been interred.
