Hannah Mead

Hannah Mead, daughter of George Mead and Hannah Hearne, was born circa 1685.1,2
Hannah was named as a beneficiary in the will of her father George Mead written on 17 October 1700. He bequeathed: "... unto Hannah Meade my Daughter the sume of ffifty pounds to be paid unto her when she shall come to the age of One and Twenty Years ...".3 Her father subsequently died on on 22 March 1708 and was buried four days later at Great St Mary's, Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire.4,5
Hannah married Rosamond Cowel between 1700 and 1728.6,7
By the time Hannah was named as a beneficiary in the will of her mother Hannah Hearne written on 3 August 1728. It is clear that she had already become a widow. Her mother wrote: " ... I give to my Daughter Hannah Cowel the Sum of five Pounds of lawfull Money and my Chaise and also all my Wearing Apparell of what kind or sort ... ". A further bequest was: " ...I give, devise and bequeath the Sum of thirty Pounds of lawfull Money of Great Britain which now is in the Hands of the Executors of my late Son in Law Rosamond Cowel to my Son Thomas Mead my Son John Mead and my Daughter Hannah Cowel to be divided amongst them three share and share alike that is to say ten Pounds apiece ... ".8 Hannah's mother died before a further year had passed, her will being proved on 12 June 1729.8
