Matthew Dayles

Male, b. circa 1688, d. circa 1764
Matthew Dayles, son of Matthew Dayles and Mary ____, was born circa 1688.

On 3 December 1719 Matthew Dayles of Rettendon, Essex, entered into a mortgage agreement with Mr Slater of Chatteris in the Isle of Ely in the County of Cambridgeshire, clerk. The mortgage was on a property which consisted of a farm and 50 acres in East Hanningfield, Essex, in the occupation of Richard Robinson.1

Matthew and Mary Mead obtained a marriage licence on 18 November 1723. Matthew was described as a single man, yeoman of Rettendon, while Mary was of Billericay, aged 21, single woman. Bondsman was Thomas Josline of Chelmsford, innholder.2

On 28 October 1726 Matthew conveyed ownership of property to George Mead of Billericay, grocer, for the sum of £700. This would appear to be the same property in Hanningfield which Matthew had obtained for £500. George was Matthew's brother-in-law.3

He made a will circa 1746 in which he named his brothers-in-law George and Richard Mead as executors and mentioned property in the occupation of Widow Watts. Matthew died circa 1764 and his estate was probated on 6 July 1764.4,5
